Remove The Base Plate
| |
Remove the base plate from your router and mount the circle jig on the router. There are different drill patterns of circle jigs available, the one you require depends on your router type. Install the router bit of your choice, you can use a spiral cutter or a profile cutter as long as they are plunge bits. The router bit must be smaller than a 1 1/2" diameter, the size of the center of the circle jig.

The Size Of The Circle
| |
Determine the radius of your desired circle. Using that measurement, drill a hole in the circle jig this distance from the cutting edge of the bit. Be sure this hole is the same size as the brass pin or nail you will use as a pivot. Add additional pivot holes when you wish to make different size circles. Insert the brass pin or nail in the center of your stock and slip the pinhole you drilled in the circle jig over this. Be sure to fasten your stock with a vise or clamps so that it does not move while cutting.

You are now ready to cut the circle. With the router running, plunge the bit into the stock and in a counter clockwise direction rotate the router around the center pin.
